Facilities & Equipment

ACCESS 31's new upgraded facilities in Belmont include - on the ground floor in the Broadcast Area - a second studio and control room, green room (change room and makeup), five rooms for editing, graphics, voice-over booth plus a new studio/control room and hire room. On the mezzanine floor is a technical room, captioning suite, platform lift, tape storage and volunteer area. The Administration area allows for approximately 18 work stations with six lockable offices.

Equipment includes power upgrade, uninterrupted power supply (UPS), generator, security upgrade, computer upgrade, surveillance system, computer hardware, telephone upgrade, six editing systems, six acquisition kits (camera, lights, microphones etc.), six VTRs, Playbox Digital hard disk presentation system, scissor lift, studio lighting and control room equipment, amplifiers, monitors, studio cameras, avid limiter, distribution amps, technical furniture, traffic and scheduling system, and air-conditioning.

Our 15kW transmission facilities are located at Broadcast Australia Transmission site in Bickley which accommodates SBS, ABC Television and other radio services. We have a five-year lease which expires April 2008 with a five year option.

Operational facilities are linked to the transmitter site via an STL (studio to transmitter link). Certain levels of redundancy are built into the transmission chain (Operations-STL-transmitter) to reduce the risk of the service being off air.

Relocation

For its first five years ACCESS 31 leased approximately 340 square metres of space from Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Mount Lawley to house its operations.

ACCESS 31 relocated from its premises at Edith Cowan University in December 2003 to new premises at 265 Great Eastern Highway, Belmont. It has a standard lease with five year term and five year option.

These new premises have a very prominent street frontage and considerably more space. The Station has grown from a 340m2 floor space to over 1200m2 and has space for future expansion within the existing building.

With initially 200m2 (approximately) of office space, the remainder of the floor space was open warehouse. ACCESS 31 was able to specifically design its operational floor space to meet its special and unique local television requirements.
