VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLEThe Presentation Area is the heart of the station and a great place to become familiar with how ACCESS 31 operates. For this reason, we recommend that volunteers with very little or no experience begin as Video Tape Operators. This involves responsiblity for loading tape programs, checking the timings and preparing programs for telecast. The Video Tape Operator must liaise with the Presentation Coordinator at all times to advise which machine tapes have been loaded for telecast. Once a volunteer has become experienced as a Video Tape Operator, they can then move into the role of Presentation Co-ordinator. The Presentation Co-ordinator is responsible for everything that goes to air on ACCESS 31. They look after the computerised program automation system that runs the daily schedule. They must also ensure that all events scheduled on the daily broadcast log are telecast in the correct order and as close to time as possible. The Coordinator must sign off all sponsor announcements as they are telecast. ACCESS 31 broadcasts a number of programs delivered by satellite. These recordings must be edited into standard broadcast format before they are aired. This involves adding colour bars, tone and countdown at the beginning; black breaks for station promo/sponsorship inserts; and a fade-to-black tail out. Some experience as a Video Tape Operator, or a television background, would be an advantage. Depending on the individual it may be possible to begin as a Video Tape Operator and then progress to Compile Editor. All locally produced programs on ACCESS 31 must be previewed before they can be aired. Previewers are responsible for detecting Copyright and Defamation breaches, so a comprehensive knowledge of the CBAA Codes of Practice, Broadcasting Services Act, Classifications and Copyright and Performers Rights is a must. Previewers also time the programs and complete a detailed cue sheet before the program is approved for broadcast. This is a great way to start at ACCESS 31 and good for people who have limited knowledge of the television industry, but want to be involved and are a bit intimidated by the technology. No experience is necessary to become a Previewer. However, a two-hour introductory course is provided, followed by on-the-job training. New Previewers need to make themselves available at the same time as experience Previewers, but once competent and able to work independently, they will have more freedom to choose their own shifts. Please note: Positions available will vary from time to time. |
